With the AP ranking Alabama at number one and Florida at number two, but the Coaches poll doing the opposite, the fact that the BCS has Florida and Alabama ranked number one and number two, respectively, is interesting but may not have any effect.
The reason I say this is because if both teams end up undefeated going into the SEC championship game, one (obviously) is going to lose anyways. The only controversy that could result would be if a rematch were asked for, but depending on whether there are any other undefeated teams or not, that may not be an issue.
The most intriguing ranking, though, is the fact that Boise State is at number four. Still, they are .18 points behind Florida, Alabama, and Texas. If Texas happens to drop a game in the Big XII, though, Boise would jump up to number three, and after a loss by one of the teams in the SEC championship game, they would end up in the national championship game. The implications of that are quite well known.
I don’t like to speculate this early because we can never predict what’s going to happen the rest of the season with all of the upsets, but it’s fun to think about.
